While they are legal tender in the whole Eurozone, they are also collectibles. Typically, they commemorate anniversaries of historical events or draw attention to current events of special importance. Up to now, fourteen €2 commemorative coins have been minted — six in 2004 and eight in 2005. Eight more are currently planned to be minted in 2006.
